New poll shows dramatic increase in Obama's lead in Wisconsin

The 2012 Presidential election is now less than a week away, and all eyes are on the battleground states. Both Obama and Republican challenger, Mitt Romney, put off campaigning during the crisis out East due to Hurricane Sandy. Romney is back on the stump in Ohio today, but new polling data released today shows that Ohio may not be the only state Romney needs to focus on in the final stretch.

A poll released by Marquette Law School indicates that incumbent Barack Obama has increased his lead to eight percentage points, up 51% to Romney's 43%. The new poll represents a seven point swing for Obama, who led by only one percentage point just two weeks ago when Marquette Law released it's last poll.

Obama and Romney have also planned several campaign stops over the next few days here in Wisconsin in an effort to lock up the state. President Obama has rescheduled his appearance in Green Bay, which was supposed to be on Tuesday, for Thursday at 9 A.M. He will be making a stop at the Green Bay airport before making another stop in Milwaukee. His running mate, Vice-President Joe Biden, will also be making a stop in Beloit tomorrow.

Mitt Romney has scheduled an appearance in West Allis for Friday morning, after cancelling his scheduled appearance there Monday. Paul Ryan, meanwhile, has been in the state since Tuesday where he had an impromptu disaster relief aid stop. He is scheduled to appear in Eau Claire, Racine, and also Green Bay before joining Mitt Romney for his appearance Friday.

For now, the lead remains with President Obama, but the if the recent up and down polling is any indication, the state is not a lock for either candidate. It would appear that the final get-out-the-vote push the final weekend and Monday and Tuesday of the election could truly decide who wins. Wisconsin historically has a high voter turnout that averages in the low 70 percentile. Whichever campaign can rally their most sporadically involved supporters, and actually get them to the polls will win Wisconsin.
