Pokémon traditionally are gender neutral but The Pokémon Company revealed a pair of new characters for Pokémon X and Y that have both male and female evolved forms in the Nintendo 3DS game.
Litleo starts out as a Lion Cub Pokémon with the Noble Roar move that lowers a target's Attack and Sp. Attack stats. Eventually, it will evolve into either a male or female Pyroar of the Royal Pokémon species with manes of burning flame and the Echoed Voice move which gets more powerful every turn it is used.
Meanwhile, Meowstic starts out as a male or female of the Constraint Pokémon species with the male's sporting blue as their primary color with white highlights and female's wearing the reverse scheme. Not only are their color patterns different but their abilities as well. The male Meowstic uses moves that provide support in battle such as the Miracle Eye move which allows future attacks to hit regardless of the target's evasion and allows Psychic attacks against Dark-type Pokémon. Female Meostics use outright Psychic attacks like Extrasensory which does damage and causes the target to flinch preventing it to move during that turn.
Pokémon X and Y will be released on Oct. 12 for the Nintendo 3DS and the Nintendo 2DS which will release alongside the game. Limited Edition Pokémon X and Y Nintendo 3DS XL handhelds will also be available in stores on Sept. 27.
