New ‘Pokémon’ Wii U or 3DS game potentially revealed

Nintendo may be preparing a new Pokémon title for the Nintendo 3DS if a recent trademark is to be believed. According to a report by NowGamer from Feb. 12, a trademark for Phantom Gate was filed by Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures Inc., possibly indicating that a new Pokémon title is in development for either the Nintendo 3DS or Wii U.

Though there is no direct mention of Pokémon found in the trademark, the three companies involved have all developed or published Pokémon games. Furthermore, the Phantom Gate name could indicate that a new installment to the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series is underway. You may recall that the previous entry was dubbed Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity.

NowGamer speculates that this trademark could be related to the Pokémon detective game starring Pikachu that is scheduled for a 2015 release for Nintendo 3DS. Of course, the trademark could be for a Pokémon Wii U title.

There isn’t much information to go for now, but it certainly seems that a new Pokémon-themed game is underway for one of Nintendo’s gaming systems. Hopefully we hear more on this mystery game at E3 2014.
