I wanted to take a moment to say hello and to say I'm excited to be blogging for examiner.com as a new Poetry Examiner. I'm not much of a poetry writer, but I'm a great lover of contemporary American poetry, and look forward to blogging both about new poetry and about a small selection of classics from around the world. Some of my favorite poets include:
- Mary Oliver
- Louise Gluck
- Stanley Kunitz
- George Oppen
- Pablo Neruda
I'm a big fan of haiku, have some interest in ancient Chinese court poetry, and since some of my best friends are great lovers of the poems of Jorge Luis Borges, it's something I plan to check out.
It's unfortunate that poetry is such a badly neglected art in today's Western world. Through this blog, I hope to be able to help introduce readers to the wonderful world of contemporary poetry. It can be daunting to try to break into the subject without knowing what you like and what's out there, so I hope to be able to help ease the process and provide a taste of the wonderful spectrum of poems that are being produced in the English language.
I can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
