Sandra Bullock and son, Louis, recently enjoyed a trip to the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans. Joining them was Camila McConaughey, wife of Bullock's former co-star Matthew McConaughey, and children, according to a Feb. 26 article by the DailyMail. The pictures show Bullock happily carrying three-year-old Louis, while Camila opts for a stroller. Bullock's sister also joined in on the zoo fun. The zoo trip came just days after Sandra and Louis attended the 2013 Super Bowl to cheer on Michael Oher and his championship-winning team, the Baltimore Ravens.
Bullock is a single parent to Louis, who joined her family in 2010 through domestic infant adoption. Bullock has a home in New Orleans, where Louis was born. At the time of the adoption, she was quoted as saying "it was important to adopt from the U.S."
Each year, nearly 18,000 infants join their families through domestic adoption, according to the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute. Single parent adoptions have been on the rise in the U.S., especially since many international programs are either closed completely or have imposed restrictions on single parent adoptions. Experts report that upwards of 30 percent of U.S. adoptions are completed by single parents.
