Abstract art is occupying the walls of Page Bond Gallery this month with new paintings by Mexico City artist Will Berry.

Berry’s lead white, graphite and oxidized aluminum leaf can be seen in “I Saw the Sun,” in which the artist “continues an exploration of light,” according to a press release by the gallery.

In his new series of work, Berry’s gold panels recall ancient worship of the sun with “ancient geometries, Renaissance and Baroque motifs-including Mexican Vice-Regal traditions.”

Of his painting process, Berry said in the press release that it is a reference to his on-going interest in Mestisaje, “the great and ever present cultural reality of fusion spurred by Colonialism, the Era of Discovery and Exploration that first made the world a global entity, circulated people, objects and ideas across the planet.”

An artist reception will be held 6-9 p.m. Feb. 21.

“I Saw the Sun” will be on view through Tuesday, Feb. 25.

Page Bond Gallery is located at 1625 West Main Street, and can be reached at 804/ 359-3633. Gallery hours are Tuesdays-Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
