Twenty-eight year old New Orleans resident Samantha T. Cornelius was charged with conspiracy and theft of funds in a two count federal bill of indictment related to the Supportive Housing Program, according to U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
The bill of information charges that Cornelius worked as a case manager for House of Ruth from March of 2007 through March of 2008, a non-profit organization operating from funds received from HUD to promote the implementation of the Supportive Housing Program. The Supportive Housing Program is designed to assist the homeless with housing and life training skills.
The bill of information alleges that Cornelius conspired with others to steal approximately $109,702.00 in funds meant to pay for temporary rental assistance and other necessary expenses incurred by House of Ruth clients.
If convicted, Cornelius faces up to ten years in federal prison, a $250,000.00 fine and three years of supervised probation following release and she will likely be ordered to make restitution to the SBA.
