Slidell Police Chief Randy Smith, identified Mark Womack, 23, and Errol 'Ro' Scott, 22, as the men who were killed. Smith also said Scott was the target of the gunman, but a friend of his posted on Facebook that he was an innocent bystander.

An employee of Shooter's said a verbal altercation involving about 15 people began inside as the bar was getting ready to close, but employees made them leave. The fight continued into the street and gun shots were fired into the crowd.

Detective Daniel Seuzeneau confirmed that one of the men died at the scene of the shooting and the second one died at a Slidell hospital several hours after the incident. Six other victims are said to be in guarded or stable condition at hospitals in Slidell and New Orleans.

Police are not releasing information as to if they have a suspect or not, but believe there was only one gunman involved.

Slidell residents are shocked by the shooting and are saying "this is not common in Olde Towne Slidell, this is not New Orleans." Mayor Freddy Drennan spoke at a press conference and called the shooting an "isolated incident."

Rodney Dunaway was at his home a block away when he heard the gun shots and says he knew exactly where it was coming from. Dunaway says most of the people were drunk and Shooter's Bar is one of the only problems in the area.

"Several people laid in the street wounded, one of them looked pretty critical, he had a head wound," said Dunaway.

Surveillance video from businesses in Olde Towne are being reviewed by authorities to see if the shooter can be identified.
