New Orleans Saints tame the Detroit Lions with 45-28 victory

The New Orleans Saints turned on the heat in the second half of the game against the Detroit Lions on Saturday, January 8, 2012 to defeat the Detroit Lions 45-28 in the first round of NFC playoff games.

The Saints turned the second half of the game around and simply put the Lions away.  The first half of the game resulted in two costly fumbles for the Saints, one by Brees and one by Marques Colston.  The Saints left the field at halftime with the Lions leading by a score of 14-10.  That all changed in the third quarter.

The Saints came out after halftime to even the score and that they did!  On the second drive in the third quarter Brees hit Devery Henderson for a touchdown to give the Saints the lead, 17-14.  This was the turning point in the game and the Lions never regained the lead during the second half of the game.  The Saints outscored the Lions by 35-14 in the second half of the game.

The Saints tamed bad boy, Ndamukong Suh, shutting him down, especially in the second quarter.  Brees was outstanding in the game, completing 33 of 43 passes for 466 yards.
