The New Orleans Saints are going to be benefit greatly from a raised salary cap, but they are still looking to make even more room. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Thursday, March 6, 2014, that the Saints are currently shopping running back Pierre Thomas, wide receiver Lance Moore, and even possibly running back Darren Sproles.
Recently, the Saints cleaned out their defensive unit by releasing Will Smith, Jabari Greer, Roman Harper, and Jonathan Vilma. Now, they're looking to clear up even more cap room by possibly trading away some key offensive components.
One big reason is that they will need the money for tight end Jimmy Graham, who was just given a franchise tag, but they want to sign him to a long-term deal.
While it isn't a popular announcement, it doesn't come as much of a surprise.
In the running back department, the Saints have Mark Ingram, who started finally coming around last season. They also saw a lot of value in young back Khiry Robinson. Thomas is aging and losing a lot of production, but Sproles is still very valuable to the team.
Moore has been injured a lot in the past couple years, and the emergence of Kenny Stills has shown the Saints that Drew Brees can bring out the best in any receivers he has.
There are bound to be a number of teams that will bite on these trades, but only if the Saints aren't asking for too much in return.
