Thirty-three year old Taurus Robinson of New Orleans was charged earlier this week with health care fraud in a five count indictment by a federal grand jury. Robinson was an employee of A New Beginning of New Orleans (ANBNO), a MEDICAID provider in Harvey, Louisiana.
ANBNO submitted claims for personal care services it stated it performed for MEDICAID recipients. Personal care services are those services provided to eligible recipients who are unable to care for themselves and who meet certain criteria as prescribed by the MEDICAID program.
The indictment alleges that between December of 2003 and April of 2005, Robinson created false time sheets and personal care services daily schedules for services he claimed to have performed for ANBNO. Based on the fraudulent information he submitted, MEDICAID paid approximately $32,135.00 to ANBNO for services that were never performed.
Robinson faces a possible maximum sentence of fifty years in federal prison, a $1,250,000.00 fine and three years of supervised probation upon release.
