While the port of New Orleans is always busy, the arrival of three new cruise ships will make the port even busier!
The Port of New Orleans made the announcement today that the new ships would double the amount of passengers from the previous ships serving the New Orleans port. The first of the new cruise ships, the Carnival Elation, arrived on November 5, 2011 as a replacement to the Carnival Ecstasy. Elation has a capacity of 2,052 passengers.
On November 12, 2011 Royal Caribbean Cruise Line’s Voyager pulled into the New Orleans port. The Voyager will sail during the winter months, November through April, and has a capacity of 3,114.
The Carnival Conquest arrived the following day on Sunday, November 13, 2011. The Conquest will sail for seven day cruises to both the eastern and western Caribbean.
These three new cruise ships will join the current Norwegian's Cruise Line's Norwegian Spirit, which is set to be replaced next fall with the Norwegian Star. The Norwegian Star is a newer and larger cruise ship that will sail on seven day cruises to the Caribbean.
Total capacity for all the cruise ships that now call the Port of New Orleans home is 10,158 passengers, which amounts to a 112 percent increase.
