This week’s Netflix releases kicks off with more original Netflix programming, as new episodes of their original animated series “TurboFAST” arrive today. Based on the Dreamworks animated film “Turbo,” the series blends laughs, action and fun that kids will love.
June 29th brings “Bad Grandpa .5,” an expanded version of the hilarious film released last year from the Jackass crew. This unrated version features over 40 minutes’ worth of deleted scenes and interviews. Fans of the original will definitely need to check this out. Also arriving that day is the 2012 bootlegging drama “Lawless,” featuring a stellar cast including Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman and Shia LaBeouf.
June 30th brings a trio of great, poignant films: the 1991 comedy-drama “My Girl,” starring a young Anna Chlumsky (“Veep”), Dan Aykroyd and Macaulay Culkin, as well as its 1994 sequel. Also arriving is the wrenching 1982 drama “Sophie’s Choice,” co-starring Kevin Kline and Peter MacNicol, although the proceedings are dominated by Meryl Streep’s brilliant portrayal of the title character. Streep won her first of many Oscars for this role.
The first of the month always brings a flood of classics to Netflix Streaming, and July 1 is no exception, with dozens of films arriving that day. Some of the classics include the legendary Henry Fonda-starring drama “12 Angry Men,” the first film directed by the great Sidney Lumet; “Basic Instinct,” the sexy 1992 thriller starring Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone; the epic 1970 war biopic “Patton,” starring George C. Scott in one of the most iconic performances in all of cinema; and “Philadelphia,” starring Denzel Washington and Tom Hanks in an Oscar-winning performance.
