New NWA World Heavyweight Champion crowned

The National Wrestling Alliance has a new World Champion after "Ironman" Rob Conway defeated Kahagas on Saturday in San Antonio, TX as part of the Branded Outlaw Wrestling show.

Kahagas was initially scheduled to defend against Jax Dane who was "injured" by the NWA World Tag Team Champions The Kingz of the Underground prior to the match. Conway stepped in and won the one-time coveted title after a slingshot snap suplex.

Conway had lobbied for a run with the title a few years ago but promoters could not agree and he did not get the chance. After new leadership took control of the NWA a series of missteps haunted the new regime including several controversial decisions regarding the World Championship.

Adam Pearce and Colt Cabana were locked in a "7 Levels of Hate" series and traded the title several times over the course of a year with the last match in Australia which saw Cabana win but refuse the title and Pearce then vacated the belt and both men disparaged the NWA and the new owners.

The NWA then went with Kahagas as World Champion in a swerve when many believed Damien Wayne was going to be champion. The decision to put the title on Kahagas was not well received by fans and some promoters. The biggest moment of the Kahagas title reign was a match with Bruce Santee in Florida that turned into a shoot when Santee did not agree to the finish.

Conway is scheduled to defend the title against Lance Hoyt with several matches expected to take place in New Japan Pro Wrestling.
