According to Nintendo’s official website, a new Virtual Console title has been released for the Nintendo 3DS.This title is “Wrecking Crew”, a title that was originally released on the Nintendo Entertainment System in October 1985. This game was also available for free to early adopters of the Nintendo 3DS when Nintendo gave out a number of free games in the Ambassador Program. This program was available to players as an apology because Nintendo dropped the price on the Nintendo 3DS soon after its release. This version of the game is now available to all Nintendo 3DS owners. It was released on March 7, 2013 at a price of $4.99.
“Wrecking Crew” is one of the original Mario spinoff titles. It stars Mario (and Luigi when playing with 2 players) as he tries to demolish walls, ladders, doors, and other objects at a construction site with his hammer. This is one of the few titles where Mario cannot jump, due to the weight of his hammer. The goal of the game is to demolish everything on screen to continue to the next level. Players are scored based on how much they destroy and gain bonus points if they manage to destroy many objects in a combo. Mario (and Luigi) must also avoid enemies and fireballs while attempting to destroy the construction sites. There are 100 construction sites to destroy. The 3DS release also has a level editor where players may build their own construction sites and play them.
