New MWA anthology ('The Rich and the Dead') features local author Roberta Isleib

Today marks the release of Mystery Writers of America Presents The Rich and the Dead (Grand Central Publishing, $24.99)—an anthology featuring local author Roberta Isleib.

Edited by Nelson DeMille, The Rich and the Dead includes twenty short stories written by members of MWA—ten of which were selected personally by DeMille.  (The others were chosen by a committee who reviewed the 200+ submissions.)  The contributors range from perennial bestsellers such as Michael Connelly (whose series character Harry Bosch makes an appearance in “Blood Washes Off”) and Lee Child to newcomer Carolyn Mullen, whose story (“Poetic Justice”) marks her first published fiction.

Publishers Weekly praised the anthology as “solid” and noted, “Utilizing everything from Ponzi schemes to trophy wives to inherited wealth, these MWA authors prove that money isn’t always the right answer.”  Further, the venerable reviewers acknowledged Isleib’s “The Itinerary” as one of the project’s standouts.

Isleib, who authored the Golf Lover’s and Advice Column Mysteries, tells HBE, “It was a great honor to have a story chosen for this anthology—and great fun to bring back a character (Detective Jack Meigs) from my last series and place him in foreign turf (Key West).”

From the publisher:

The truly wealthy live in another world. From their multi-national businesses to their palatial mansions to their exotic vacations at glamorous places all around the world, they do everything in a big way. And sometimes, that even includes crime. In this anthology, you'll read about a wealthy writer who plots murder his hopeless agent, an aging actress who clings to her past of wealth and fame, and a spoiled rich boy who steps into dangerous territory with his mean antics, among others. THE RICH AND THE DEAD features mystery and crime stories set among the upper crust of society, going behind the scenes of the lifestyles of the two percent of the world that controls sixty percent of its riches--and just how far they'll go to stay on top.
