havoc and bright lights brings Morissette's first album since 2008's Flavors of Entanglement (Deluxe and Standard). Written and released shortly after giving birth, this album is sure to reflect Morissette's life changes over the past five years. iTunes offers a Deluxe Edition (includes jekyll and hyde bonus track and guardian lyric video) and Standard Edition.
A Thing Called Divine Fits is the debut album from three familiar indie rocker names: Britt Daniel (Spoon), Dan Boeckner (Wolf Parade), and Sam Brown (New Bomb Turks). Lead duty is split evenly, five songs apiece, between Daniel and Boeckner. The songs vary somewhat stylistically, but all come together when listening to the album straight through. This album is a must have for indie rock fans. Listen to the album in advance at the Divine Fits site.
The Circle in the Square continues Flobots's history of biting socio-political lyrics delivered through thumping rap-rock tunes. The new album seems to offer nothing new. For those types of fans who want their bands to stay stylistically the same throughout their careers, this album is for you. Flobots stay true to their style of music and produce another album similar to 2010's Survival Story and 2008's Fight with Tools. The songs are decent, but it would be nice to see some kind of growth by their third album. Oh well, there is something to be said for consistency. Drop the Dallas Local Music Examiner a comment if you know what that something is.
