The Grascals are no strangers to bringing a perfect marriage of bluegrass and country music. For their latest single, they went back to the roots of pop with the Monkee's hit song, "Last Train to Clarksville. By adding their special touch, they made the song their own.
Jamie Johnson, Terry Eldridge, and Terry Smith taking the reins on the vocals. They are joined in with Jeremy Abshire on fiddle, Kristin Scott Benson on banjo, and Danny Roberts on mandolin filling in with solo instrumentals with ease.
The IBMA Entertainers of the Year bring the driving bluegrass tune that is simplistic and playful. When the song was originally released by the Monkees, the story behind it was that it was about a guy who recently got drafted and goes to fight in the war. The train is taking him to an army base and he knows that he might die while serving in the war. The song is fitting in the times we are living now.
The song is currently sitting at #4 on the Bluegrass Music Profiles Chart and #15 on the Bluegrass Unlimited Chart. The video for the song was recently released and can be seen here.
The Grascals, sponsored by MOBIL DELVAC, tour over 140 dates a year, and will perform at The Grand Ole Opry on August 13 and at the Kentucky State Fair with The Oak Ridge Boys on August 22. They continue to grace festivals across the U.S. this summer and Fall and, in October, they'll re-join Hank Williams, Jr. for additional Rowdy Friends Tour dates.
