New music from Johnny Cash as lost album recovered

Eleven years after his death, fans will get to hear “new” music from Johnny Cash. In an interview with Billboard published on March 25, Johnny Cash’s son, John Carter Cash, explains that tracks his father had recorded in 1984 have finally found their way to light in the way of a new album. The album, “Out Among the Stars” was also released on March 25.

If it weren’t for a little help from The Man in Black’s son, however, the music may have lain dormant on record company shelves forever. In the Billboard article John Carter Cash tells of how he rescued the Johnny Cash tracks by finding musicians who could fill in the instrumental gaps that left the songs incomplete.

The reward for their efforts is a rare opportunity for music fans to step back in time and hear the voice of an artist who would have otherwise been gone forever. John Carter Cash does a wonderful job of describing his father as all at once funny, committed, reflective, loyal and triumphant–each of these attributes coming through on different tracks on the album.

“Out Among the Stars” features Johnny and June together, Carlene Carter, Waylon Jennings and other respected musicians. The album is in stores now.
