On Sunday night at 10 pm EST Ft. Lauderdale New Mount Olive Baptist Church held it’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. memorial. The memorial showcased new local artists, music ensembles and choirs throughout the community from the Boynton United Community Choir to Mt. Olive’s own choir, set to release its album in September of this year.
The event drew attendees from around the community to hear music from new local artists. Featured artists included John Willingham and the foot-stomping sounds of Stephen “Toby” Lewis and T.F.E.
Boynton United Community Choir also sung a few songs including “God is Great” and “Manifest”, with support from Boynton Beach Commissioner and Vice Mayor Mack McCray in attendance.
The highlight of the evening was a performance by a subset of Mt. Olive’s choir, Sweet Anointing, a group of 9 young ladies with sultry vocals and each with their own distinctive sound.
The female group will record its first album in September, while Mt. Olive’s choir will release their live-recorded album in April of this year.
