A Monkees fan convention that will include a special tribute to Davy Jones is being discussed for the West Coast next year, one of the organizers said Saturday.
Phyllis Friedman Paganucci, who was also one of the organizers of the David T. Jones Memorial Convention that was held in New Jersey earlier this month, said sites in Southern California are being discussed for the convention, though no decisions have been made as to where it will be held.
“I don't have all the details yet on the Monkees Con 2014 as we are in the beginning phases of planning,” she said. “Micky, Peter and most of our guest stars have approached us to do it as it was a tremendous success for them as well as the Davy Jones Equine Memorial Foundation, Davy's charity. My partners and I will scout sites in either Los Angeles or Long Beach.”
Monkees Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork were the headline guests for the New Jersey convention. Also appearing were many others who knew or had an association with Davy Jones, including David Cassidy, Ron Dante of the Archies, Donna Loren, members of “The Brady Bunch” TV show cast, and Christian Nesmith, son of Mike Nesmith, with Circe Link.
“This past convention, which I am still recovering from, was the most successful Monkee related convention in history,” she said. “We had a few bumps in the road with one or two guest stars, but overall it was amazing. We set out to help Davy's daughters raise money for their dad's charity and we did just that. This was a Davy memorial/convention. The next will be a Monkees convention with a special tribute to Davy.”
