The US Department of Energy to conduct workshops teaching firms how to apply for grant money
DALLAS (Feb 6, 2011) Federal moves to bring relief to the Gulf states region damaged by last year’s massive oil spill continues with grants to firms developing energy solutions. Now it is announced the US Department of Energy will be conducting a grant writing workshop at the Green Technologies Conference produced by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) held April 14-15, 2011 at the Hilton Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Capitol Center hotel downtown.
This workshop will provide basic grant writing techniques and tools to be utilized in writing successful proposals. The workshop will familiarizing those who have not written a grant proposal with eligibility requirements and other criteria related to the organization and grant program from which funding is sought.
Those encouraged to attend include staff of non-profit entities such as community development organizations, also staff of for-profit entities, students, administrators of institutions of higher education and of University Healthcare Institutions, community organizers, leaders, volunteers and Native American tribe economic development entities.
After taking the course the participant will be able to understand how to prepare a successful proposal using effective grant writing tools. Participants will understand how to build a team beyond their own organization and how to identify and recruit necessary partners from local government and the private sector.
The Examiner learned these details when the general chairman of the conference, David J. Pierce, told producers of the Promise of Tomorrow science radio program in advance of the broadcast. The program originates in Dallas and then is archived on the web for its world audience. In addition to the grant writing workshop, “thirty-eight technical papers were accepted and invited to present their work in one of the four major tracts (at the green tech conference),” said Pierce, “and Thursday evening there is a tour of the LSU Agricultural Center LA House and Louisiana Clean Energy Expo hosted by the LSU Center for Energy Studies.”
In addition to the technical sessions the conference has several professional credit Hour seminars for engineering practitioners, namely: 2011 NEC Changes; Alternate Energy Installation Requirements of the 2011 NEC; and Introduction to Building Green.
The Region 5 meeting and student activities follows the IEEE GreenTechnologies Conference. Students from universities in IEEE Region 5 will present their papers, participate in design competitions and meet head-to-head in friendly rivalry on the Robotics Competition track.
