Following a long partnership between Marvel comics and 4J Studios' Xbox versions of Minecraft, fans of the popular block-building title will soon be getting another batch of new avatar skins based upon characters from the comic book publisher’s universe. Marvel Editor Ben Morse revealed on July 26 that a new skin pack is now in development for the Xbox editions of Minecraft that will allow gamers to play as the various members of Marvel’s upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
Further announcing the existence of the new licensed DLC, Microsoft Studios’ Roger Carpenter retweeted Morse’s original announcement on Sunday. Carpenter, who has served as the lead producer on both Xbox editions of Minecraft, also confirmed that The Guardians of the Galaxy skin pack will be releasing on The Xbox 360 version of the game as well as the upcoming Minecraft: Xbox One Edition.
This will be the third time that Marvel and Microsoft have partnered together to bring a skin pack to Minecraft. Despite the fact that 4J Studios’ console port of Minecraft is also now on the Playstation 3, these licensed Marvel add-ons have all been Xbox exclusives. Previously, Xbox owners have enjoyed a Spider-Man skin pack as well as general Marvel skin pack featuring a wide selection of characters from the universe such as Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and more.
Based on the first image released for the Guardians of the Galaxy skin pack, the upcoming DLC will give fans the opportunity to play the sandbox creation title as Star Lord, Gamora, Drax, Groot, and Rocket Racoon. It is unknown if only the movie’s heroes will be represented in the add-on or if more skins will be announced for the DLC in the future.
Minecraft first released on consoles over two years ago starting with the games Xbox 360 launch. Late last year, the series also finally hit the Playstation 3. In August, 4J Studios will release new versions of the game on both the Xbox One and PS4.
