New Midwestern Talent from "Da Scout"

Who am I? I’m a veteran music writer turned digital talent scout. Why am I (doing this)? Because young, super talented artists contact me CONSTANTLY. And they need to be seen and heard.

I scout talent throughout the internet, and in places that the industry DOESN’T go. Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Kansas, Missouri…even New Mexico and Washington. My job is to scout the same way scouts do for sports. These artists are my blue chip athletes.

Below are the current batch of Radio Ready Artists that I’ve been scouting. These kids are ready to go RIGHT NOW. Check them out.

1. Talan: This guy is kind of "Drake-ish". He has that Canada sound. But, he's got an offbeat kind of charm, and the song and video is a pleasant surprise. Below is a link to his current single, "Girls In The City", and his contact info.

2. Sylver Karatz: Another rapper. She's hood, but I think with some tinkering, she could be a star. Her current video and single, "Born To Win", is a great message. And right now, the only real female MC in the game making noise is Nikki Minaj.

3. Ray Jr. : He's an MC who's street, but his songs are CATCHY. He could get mainstream radio play, and hold down the streets at the same time. His current, song is raw, street, and super hood, but you'll be bobbing your head while listening to it...involuntarily.

Ray's Music: "Goat Knot"

4. Lil Eric: He's young, and raw. But...if you listen to his current song, "No Mo", you can hear a real songwriter. And he seems to have a sense of humor. I think Lil Eric has lots of potential. He would need work with a seasoned producer, but I think he could be a star in very little time.

5. Here is Charles C. He's a young, Midwestern kid who now lives in Atlanta. He's a great singer, but he also oozes confidence and charm. He was once managed by Nelly's camp, and he made a few tracks with Kerri Hillson a few years ago. Below is a link to his most recent songs on, and a link to his Facebook site. I think Charles could be a major talent, and he's VERY radio ready.

6. Here's a young man out of Pontiac, Michigan who a few of my rap media friends have told me about. This song (to me) is fantastic. He's raw, but young, and he has the makings of a Kendrick Lamar-kind of rap star.
His name is Jibreel Price.

7. Jola The Trunk Boi
Info: He’s from the Midwest, and his “identity” is that he’s from the “Trunk”. He grew up in a middle class environment, not the “Hood”. Hence the “Trunk”. He’s handsome and articulate. He once had a deal with Jermaine Dupri. He’s independent now.
Outlook: I think Jola could make Top 40 songs right away. And he’s super marketable. Below are links to his Twitter page and Tumblr. He’s already great with his own marketing and branding. If he had a bigger platform, he would explode.

Music Links: “She Say” (GREAT song)

“Trunk Go Crazy” (Radio ready song)

“ High End Fashion” (Nice song for the ladies)
