"New" Mexico trys to outdo "New" York with "NEW" Anti-Gun legislation

Remember when you were a kid and you always tried to outdo your siblings or friends with things like how far your bike, sled or skateboard would go as you hit the wooden or snow jump and catapulted your bike or sled into the air? You would all compare how far you could go and then it was all about the bragging rights!

Well that is how the Democrats and Anti's in New Mexico are acting now as they try to outdo the travesty that occurred with Gov. Cuomo signing the MOST egregious trampling of the 2nd Amendment our country has ever seen.

Now like little children, the New Mexico legislature is trying to "out do" what New York did almost as if for bragging rights!!

The outpouring of support AGAINST Albuquerque, NM Rep Miguel Garcia's (D) misguided proposals were a great indication as to the outrage of lawmaker's failure to understand or accept the fact that the 2nd Amendment is a RIGHT not a Privledge for law abiding citizens in New Mexico!

Now HB 402 is being proposed. See below for an overview of the recommendations of this law:

Introduced by state Representative Stephen Easley (D-Eldorado), bans the future possession and transport of a so-called "assault weapon" or "large-capacity ammunition-feeding devices." All such property owned in New Mexico prior to July 1, 2013 would be grandfathered, but the burden of proving ownership prior to that date is placed on the owner. Proving the date of purchase can be almost impossible and serial numbers do not exist on many magazines.

Ownership of the affected firearms and magazines could not be transferred AT ALL. The only means of disposing of them would be through a gun "buyback" or turn-in program to law enforcement -- no inheritance, no allowing a friend or relative to take custody of the prohibited property, no selling or transferring the property out-of-state or even to a federally-licensed dealer. Grandfathered owners of the firearms described below would be required to store them in a locked gun safe at all times except when the guns are being transported or used. Transport would only be lawful if the firearm is unloaded, any detachable magazine is removed and the gun is equipped with a triggerlock.

The definition of "assault weapon" in HB 402 is an unmitigated disaster. It doesn't list specifically-banned models and instead imposes a "one-feature test" for rifles, shotguns and pistols, as well as a catch-all for "a semi-automatic version of an automatic rifle, shotgun or firearm." A banned feature for both semi-automatic rifles that can accept a detachable magazine and semi-automatic shotguns would be a "secondhand grip" OR a "protruding grip that can be held by the non-trigger hand."

To see a good overview of where this lawmaker stands on the issues read the ABQ Journal article. It won't be a surprise to many gun rights advocates and 2nd Amendment supporters that this guy is far left of center. To see his Linked-In page view HERE and his legislative page and contact info HERE.

Every New Mexico Gun Rights advocate and 2nd Amendment supporter needs to contact him to let him know that we don't appreciate his proposed legislation and will work very hard to ensure he losses his seat as a result f this proposed legislation. This malicious and unjustified attack on law abiding citizens rights can not and will not stand, and there are consequences to his actions.

Contact him now again HERE to let him know how you feel. All and any gun owner in the state needs to go on record that these Anti 2nd Amendment and Anti gun proposals won't make any of us more safe and on the contrary increases the chance of law abiding citizens being charged as criminals for breaking another foolish and mis-guided gun control law.
