New Mexico shooting leaves 5 dead, teen gunman charged

Five people have been shot to death outside Albuquerque, New Mexico, and three of them were children. According to Bernalillo County sheriff's Lt. Sid Covington, the victims were all shot multiple times, “and one of the weapons used was what he described as an assault rifle.”

A 15-year-old boy, who may be a member of the family, has now been charged with “two counts of murder “and three counts of child abuse resulting in death,” said Bernalillo County Sheriff Dan Houston.

Covington told reporters the scene on Saturday was dreadful. "I've never seen a scene quite like this," he explained.

Polices do not know why this teenager murdered those five people. They have also not released the names of the victims, but police did say the “dead included a man, a woman, and three grade-school-age children—two girls and a boy.”

The teen is currently being charged as a juvenile; however, prosecutors could “bring charges against him as an adult,” said Covington.
