New Mexico HB 77; The Folly & Fallacy of a Misguided Legislature!

Once again the complete folly & fallacy of misguided New Mexico politicians that want to tout that they did something despite the fact that what they did, did not address the problem or fix anything!

This type of spinning of the wheels and mud slinging is exactly what has been going on in the New Mexico State Capital thanks to the misguided and un-infomed efforts of yes, you guessed it a Democratic Legislature - Miguel Garcia.

Earlier Story in regards to Miguel Garcia's introduction of HB 77 below:

Albuquerque, NM Lawmaker proposing to trample 2nd Amendment & Constitution

In an effort to "Stem the Tide of Stupidity" in Santa Fe 2ndAmendmentRight.org sent the below letter to the Judiciary Committee members to go on record as NOT supporting this foolish legislation:

Judiciary Committee Members,

I want to go on record in opposition against HB 77.

The entire basis for the premise that there is a "Gun Show Loophole" is flawed and mis-leading!
Private firearm transactions do not only take place at gun shows.
As an FFL and CCW holder here in the state it seems ridiculous that you would subject a law abiding CCW holder who has already had a background investigation, taken additional training, and been fingerprinted be held to this requirement.

There are many friends and family members that I regularly shoot with that I know and trust. This legislation potentially would require them to be once again restricted by a law that has no business being passed and won't reduce gun crime.
As an FFL this law would obviously be to my advantage yet I strongly oppose it!

I am copying many of my fellow shooters, family and friends on this e-mail because of how important I personally believe the 2nd Amendment is to our country and history.
Continued infringements like HB 77 will do little except continue to whittle away at the rights of the "majority" in an effort to protect the "few" if any.

As an active shooter, sportsman and gun enthusiast I think it is important to reiterate that the 2nd Amendment has been restricted far too much and far to frequently in response to tragic events.
Without trampling on individual rights and HIPPA health laws the requirement for mandatory NCIS background checks will miss the exact sector of the population that has consistently proven to be the cause of most mass shootings
(mentally ill young men) and yet this proposed legislation would do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to address this issue and as such these individuals would PASS a NCIS background check regardless.

As a Committee you should be asking: "What are we going to do to address the root of the Problem?

More bogus laws on the books that create more hurdles for law abiding citizens is a waste of your time, our tax payer dollars and frankly won't solve anything.

As taxpayers and fellow citizens we are expecting much, much more from our elected officials, now it's time for you to prove that you are worthy of your constituencies by doing what is right.

Respectfully,

Winston Dorian

The complete list of the New Mexico Judiciary Committee Members that received the letter. Thankfully many of the friends & colleagues that were copied on the original letter have also taken the time to send their comments and ideas on this issue.

Recent NT Times Article, "Gun-Friendly New Mexico Considers Stricter Controls".

In New Mexico, State Senator George K. Muñoz, a Democrat from Gallup, said that guns had long been woven into the lives of the state’s rural Hispanic and Native American population, many of whom vote Democratic.

Mr. Muñoz, who said he was open to supporting Mr. Garcia’s legislation, sponsored a bill several years ago allowing individuals with concealed carry permits to bring their guns into restaurants that serve beer or wine, unless explicitly prohibited.

The measure passed and was signed by Gov. Bill Richardson, the state’s most powerful Democrat at the time.

The mere FACT that this legislation does essentially nothing except infringe on law abiding citizens is once again a moot point and falls on deaf ears as these politicians actually believe that doing something even if it's useless legislation is better than doing nothing.

Why? Makes them feel good and allows them to further demagogue the issue even further by saying that they took action!
