The New Mexico Supreme Court has legalized same sex marriage equality in that state. Congrats to those of New Mexico. The question is, when does the rest of America join New Mexico? When does Wisconsin join New Mexico and other states where gays can marry?
Of course the religious right-wing is up in arms. A Catholic bishop in Springfield, Illinois, after that state legalized marriage equality, said he would perform an exorcism at the same time that Il.
Gov. Quinn signed such legalization. I cannot verify if he actually performed the exorcism, and if not, then how will the people of Illinois go on without a marriage equality bill exorcism?
Frank Schaefer, a Methodist priest, was defrocked for officiating at the marriage ceremony of his gay son.
While this was New Mexico, it was obviously not at a time when marriage equality was legal in that state. Now, the Methodists, or any other group, has the perfect right to defrock or throw out anyone they want from their religion.
But, what should we take from a religion where a priest is kicked out for officiating at a ceremony for his son, because his son is gay? Well, that if there is a god, I don't think this would be one that this god would approve of such a religion.
Finally, please support marriage equality by joining the Human Rights Campaign or Freedom to Marry. Thanks.
