As gamers currently enjoy Konami and Platinum Games’ “Metal Gear Rising Revengeance,” series creator, Hideo Kojima, spoke to Spong on Tuesday, Feb. 26, about the future of the “Metal Gear Solid” franchise and the direction he plans to take “Metal Gear Solid 5” when it sees release.
While talking with Spong, Kojima shared that the next numbered release of the “Metal Gear Solid” series will stay true to previous entries and continue forward with stealth-focused gameplay. Much like “Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots,” Kojima wants players to experience “excitement and tension” from the gameplay as you sneak through a stage or environment en route to complete a mission.
Above all, Kojima insisted that “Metal Gear Solid” will always be a stealth series and that all numbered title in the series will have stealth gamplay at its core so they can deliver the excitement one would expect from a “Metal Gear Solid” game.
His full statement reads:
One thing I want to make clear is that Metal Gear Solid, will always be a stealth series. The core gameplay is feeling that excitement and tension that you feel as you sneak through a stage or environment and achieve your mission. That, to me, is the core of the series. And as far as the numbered titles in the series are concerned, they will always feature that type of gameplay.
Many believe that “The Phantom Pain” was “Metal Gear Solid 5’s” debut trailer. There has not yet been an official confirmation that the two are related, though there is heavy evidence suggesting so. “Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes” will be shown at GDC in the coming weeks, however.
