2011 was a great year in many regards for the art scene in Austin. The art center went through some major changes including becoming an all volunteer run organization. The Board became more active in the process which helped produce a sustainable year. Membership grew as more classes were offered, more unique art shows and fundraisers were had and with more than 20% of the Vision 2020 projects that were listed and voted on by the community, it was a great year to become active at the Austin Area Art Center. 2012, a new beginning of a profitable year in how many ways?
This year, the Austin Area Art Center is showcasing their new members right off the starting blocks. 7 new members are showing off their work at the Austin Area Art Center from now through January 29th. The show consists of ceramics, photography, pen and ink, pencil drawing, and paintings. From Bruce Loeschen’s montage of Ottumwa, Iowa, to the photograph of Church in the Sea of Green by Phil Masse--a new board member as well as member, to Tim Stadig’s Killer Whale Ceramic piece, this show, while small in nature does showcase these and four other new members work.
Bruce Loeschen is a retired high school art teacher of the Austin Public Schools. While he is known locally for that, he has a growing list of cities that he has created montages for. He is also know to be a renaissance artist as he has participated with that in the past as well.
David Costet, a new member from Spring Grove, Minnesota, is a photographic artists. His work that is on display captures awesome composition with the image of his Butterfly Book as well as Tripod. Those are just two of his images though and they are neat to see in person as well.
Justin Hultgren, a pen and ink and pencil artist has five unique pieces on display as well. Of them, is the piece “Untitled.” You will have to stop on by and see this piece as it showcases his style well.
Besides those, Judy Bublitz also has four pieces in the show. But the new members wall is only half of the show. The whole members wall was recently freshened up again. This show will be up from now until January 29, 2012. You can view the show from Wednesdays through Sundays from 12-4pm. The Art Center looks forward to your visit as we kick off another year of new and unique art shows--let alone a host of 30 different classes for the year!
