Meijer is looking to build a new location for the giant retailer in Greenfield at the former Mount Carmel Nursing home at 60th Street and W. Layton Ave. The store should include a gas station, home goods, and a pharmacy with a drive up access, and an outdoor garden center. The new site is approximately 22-acre with 195,000 square foot of store.
The Grand Rapids, Michigan based retailer, Meijer, have submitted plans to the City of Greenfield Plan Commission and Common Council requesting review and approval of the new store. According to sources, the plans are scheduled to go under review by the city officials on August 12 during the weekly Common Council meeting.
Meijer also plans on building another store in southeastern Wisconsin and the Milwaukee area, on 831 E. Sunset Drive in Waukesha. This site has gained initial approval by city officials despite opposition from local residents.
Currently the grocery store retailer is building a new store that is under construction in Wauwatosa on the south side of W. Burleigh St. and other several communities. They expect to open the new first store in the Milwaukee area in 2015. They are also seeking permits to build new location in the Sussex, Grafton, and Oak Creek area. The Meijer branch planned for Drexel Town Square on South Howell and Drexel Ave mix-use development in Oak Creek has gained zoning a finance approval by the City Plan Commission. This location still needs another Common Council last approval before they can officially start construction.
