A few weeks ago, the Cincinnati Reds relieved former Manager Dusty Baker of his duties with the club. Like any professional sports team, the blame falls to the coaches when a team is struggling to take the next step and win championships. While the Reds have moved forward, Baker is looking for another opportunity to serve a baseball team because he is not ready to call it quits on his managing career. After six seasons with the Reds and a long career in baseball, Baker needs a fresh start outside the Queen City.
Mark 1:27 states, "They were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, 'What is this? A new teaching? For with authority he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him!'" Those who heard Jesus teach understood there was something new, unique, and powerful un what he had to tell them. While Jesus explained the nature and truth of the Kingdom of God, people were amazed and began to understand the new life that God would provide through the death and resurrection of Jesus. New life in Christ, and those who have found it, has dramatically shaped the world today.
Today, Cincinnati Christians live in the world that Christ and his ministry helped create. While Christians in Cincinnati can only read the teachings of Jesus in their Bibles and listen to others expound the truth of Jesus' words, those teachings and truths still hold out new life to those who believe. Dusty Baker needs a fresh start for his career, but many people need a new life in Christ. Christians in the greater Cincinnati area should be immersed in the teachings of Christ, so that they might share the truth and teachings of Jesus Christ to those who need his fresh, life-giving touch. While Christians live in their new life in Christ, they ought to share that new life with those who do not yet believe.
