“The Little Mermaid” is a Disney classic movie that’s held little children captive since its release in 1989. More than one generation has thrilled to the excitement as Ariel struggles to stay human, get Prince Eric to love her and as her friends Flounder and Sebastian help her throughout. The vile Ursula, a wonderfully nasty villain, tries to thwart Ariel by taking human form, using magic to make Eric fall in love with her
Ariel and her sisters live in a castle under the sea. Sixteen-year-old Ariel dreams of life on dry land, daydreaming of one day walking about on legs, experiencing everything she feels is missing in her life. When she catches a glimpse of Prince Eric at his birthday party, she falls madly in love, saving him from drowning after he is shipwrecked in a violent storm and singing to him as he awakens. Ariel begs Ursula, the sea witch, to give her legs so she can find the man she loves. Ursula agrees, taking her voice in return, and giving her three days to get “a kiss of true love,” or she will be one of her slaves for life. Eric vows to find the girl who saved him and marry her, causing Ursula to take human form and use Ariel’s own trapped voice to stop him from recognizing Ariel.
