A new veteran’s hospital is under construction in North Las Vegas and will be the first VA hospital built in the U.S. in 20 years and will serve about 60,000 veterans. The 7 story hospital, located at 6900 N. Pecos Road near the Las Vegas Beltway is scheduled to open in 2012.

The $600.4 million state of the art project, will serve as the prototype for similar projects across the country. The project is expected to create about 2,200 jobs in construction and the medical field. About 600 workers are at the site daily, and the project will finish after three years of construction.

The hospital will include 84 inpatient beds in private rooms and a 120 bed community living center. The hospital will also pull some of its power from a solar energy system built on its campus.
