The company that is behind the construction of the new Football stadium to be located in the City of Industry, California (about 25 miles east of Los Angeles) is targeting the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Buffalo Bills to relocate to the stadium in the near future.
The plan was to have one team move to the LA stadium, but now the thinking is they could use two. The problem here is Ralph Wilson, owner of the Bills, is never going to relocate the team to California. If he were to ever move his team, Toronto, Canada would be a more logical city for them to go too.
The Jaguars are in a tapped out NFL market, with a terrible local economy. It does not seem like the Jaguars can make a significant amount of money even if they were to sell out all their games, and doing so in a wrecked Florida economy is just not going to happen. Since they don’t have long roots in that community it seems to be a pretty good bet that they could move to LA.
Majestic Realty, the company building the stadium, are also looking at the San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders, Minnesota Vikings, San Diego Chargers, and St. Louis Rams as possible team to relocate.
There doesn’t seem to be any real hard evidence that the 49ers would be interested in moving that far away from San Francisco. While they have had an uphill fight to get a new stadium of their own built, it seems pretty likely that they will end up in Santa Clara.
There has been some talk that the Raiders would share that stadium with them, but when Al Davis is concerned no one ever really knows. The Chargers need a new stadium, and if they can win the Super Bowl, this year they may be able to finally convince the local government there to assist in getting a stadium deal done.
The Vikings also now have their own stadium, but could use a new one but this one seems a little far fetched. The Rams on the other hand have roots in LA, are for sale, and seem the most likely of these teams to be ready for relocation.
If I were a betting man though, my money would be on the Oakland Raiders, and the Jacksonville Jaguars being the new tenants of the new NFL stadium. Of course we could debate for ever if the NFL really need to be in LA, but one thing is for certain in the very near future pro football will be back in Los Angeles.
