A new Johnny Cash album has country music fans across the country excited this week, as posthumous music straight from Cash will be coming back this March 2014, with the release of “Out Among the Stars.” The album is a previously unreleased collection of songs that the “Ring of Fire” singer recorded back in the early 1980s with Billy Sherrill, GATCV News shares this Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013.
The new Johnny Cash album has never been officially released from Columbia Records due to extenuating circumstances at the time. It eventually faded away following the label dropping Cash a short time later in 1986. The dusty tape was allegedly uncovered along with many other rare possessions in the personal items that Johnny Cash and his wife, June Carter Cash, left behind when they passed away.
The tracks on the record are said to be a callback to the classic songs Cash is known for, so old style country music fans are definitely in for a special treat when the album is ready for public release. Who's ready for the comeback?
“They never threw anything away,” their son John Carter Cash said. “They kept everything in their lives. They had an archive that had everything in it from the original audio tapes from The Johnny Cash Show to random things like a camel saddle, a gift from the prince of Saudi Arabia.”
Since there was so much memorabilia found within the storage, it wasn’t until recently that Legacy Recordings and officials discovered the new Johnny Cash album stowed away among the other things. The music project had been recorded with Johnny and Billy Sherrill, with the 1980s being a key time when some country sounds were making an innovative transition to that of more “pop” style music. It was said the joint effort was part of a way to help Johnny Cash regain his popularity and notoriety among fans.
“We were so excited when we discovered this,” added their son. “We were like, ‘My goodness, this is a beautiful record that nobody has ever heard.’ Johnny Cash is in the very prime of his voice for his lifetime. He’s pitch perfect. It’s seldom where there’s more than one vocal take. They’re a live take, and they’re perfect.”
"Out Among the Stars" will be released in March 2014.
