New Jersey waitress let go in receipt hoax scandal to return donations

A New Jersey waitress let go from her job following a receipt hoax scandal received an unknown number of donations from people from all over the world after claiming that she was stiffed on a tip for being gay. Dayna Morales, 22, a lesbian and former Marine, was working as a waitress at the Gallop Asian Bistro when she served a family. Morales then claimed the family left her a homophobic note in lieu of a tip.

According to a Dec. 9, 2013 report by the Christian Post, "People responded with support and sent her nearly $3,000 in donations, which she promised to donate to the Wounded Warriors Project." That amount has not been confirmed, and the Wounded Warriors Project reportedly has no record of any donations from the New Jersey waitress let go from her job.

Dayna Morales, the New Jersey waitress let go from her job at the bistro, has reportedly started paying back money to those people who sent her tips after she posted a Facebook photo of the receipt which clearly showed a handwritten message that read, "I'm sorry but I cannot tip because I do not agree with your lifestyle."

According to a message posted on the restaurant's Facebook page, the Gallup Asian Bistro completed an internal investigation into the alleged receipt hoax, but their findings were inconclusive. Therefore, the restaurant and the waitress have decided mutually to part ways:

The Gallop Asian Bistro has taken seriously the allegations made by Ms. Dayna Morales, and those made against her. Despite news reports to the contrary, this is not a simple, straight-forward matter and we have conducted our own internal investigation. The results of that investigation are inconclusive as to exactly what happened between Ms. Morales and the customers that night. However, in light of the investigation and recent events, both Ms. Morales and Gallop Asian Bistro have made a joint decision that Ms. Morales will no longer continue her employment at our restaurant. We wish her well in the future.

Overall, this has been an unfortunate incident for Gallop Asian Bistro, our employees, and our customers. We are dedicated to providing excellent Asian cuisine and superior service. We have the utmost faith in our management and staff and we welcome the opportunity to serve our customers.

With the New Jersey waitress let go from her job, it must be difficult for her to repay those who showed her kindness with donations. Yet the 22-year-old woman is making an effort by paying back the funds. However, she has not admitted any wrongdoing in the incident. CP reported that at least three people have received refunds of their donations so far. It is unclear how many people remain unreimbursed at this time.
