No one expects to be brutally attacked while shopping, but that is exactly what happened to a New Jersey mother as she shopped at a Bed Bath and Beyond store.
Kerri Dalton, 29, was stabbed over 20 times Thursday as she shopped with her 5-month-old baby. As a result, her lungs were punctured, according to the New York Daily News. Fortunately, her baby, who was in a carriage, was uninjured.
On Saturday, Dalton was in critical condition. Now she is in good condition. Her family said she is fighting to get better.
After the attack, Dalton was able to call 911 while she was on the ground, bleeding profusely. Police eventually arrested Tyrik Haynes, 19, charging him with “attempted murder.” He is now “being held on $1 million bail.”
Haynes is also due in court next month for burning a cat to death. He brought his adopted cat in the woods on Christmas Eve and set it on fire, said authorities.
Victor Amato of the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said they discovered the cat over one week ago in that same wooded area. He said the cat was “dead from the burns.”
Police said it is still unknown why Haynes targeted Dalton.
