New Jenni Rivera song surfaces: 'Hurts So Bad' with Edward James Olmos

A new song by late Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera has surfaced online. Billboard premiered her duet with actor Edward James Olmos titled “Hurts So Bad” on Friday. The pop ballad was lifted from “Filly Brown,” an upcoming movie Rivera starred in before her untimely passing.

“Hurts So Bad” was one of the last songs Rivera recorded before a tragic plane crash back in December claimed her life. The ballad is a English language duet with Olmos, who also stars in the “Filly Brown” film. The two trade verses back and forth about trying to repair a painful relationship on the rocks. Billboard writes that “Hurts So Bad” was made in the style of of “oldies” song, which it beautifully recalls.

“That session was like Chicano heaven. We feel honored to have been part of history that will live on forever,” Lisa “Khool Aid” Rios, one of the film's producers, told Billboard about the duet.

In “Filly Brown,” Rivera plays the mother of an aspiring Latina rapper. Her character is jailed and plagued by drug-addiction issues, which has drawn Rivera acclaim from film critics for her performance. According to IMDb, the film will be released on April 26.
