Fans of “The Catcher in the Rye” will be happy to know a new, in depth biography of J.D. Salinger is being released September 3, 2013. The biography, "Salinger," was written by David Shields and Shane Salerno. It is being published by Simon & Schuster. According to the publishing company’s website, it took Shields and Salerno over eight years to piece together this new look into the late author’s life. They conducted over 200 interviews that took place on five different continents.
Biographies of Salinger are nothing new. In fact, on amazon.com you can find at least five that were written in the past ten years. However, the publisher claim Shields and Salerno have produced the most in-depth look into Salinger’s life. The website claims they were able to nab interviews with family members, and friends, all who had close ties to Salinger himself, and had never agreed to be interviewed previously. The book also contains over 100 unpublished photographs.
For the devoted readers of “The Cather in the Rye” wanting a little more insight into the man who created it all, this just might be the answer. The cover itself seems to be evoking the style of “The Cather in the Rye.” The publisher’s website even claims that the biography is a “definitive portrait of one of the most fascinating figures of the twentieth century.” While they don’t allude to how much detail is given, it is assumed the biography covers much of Salinger's life, as its length reaches a whopping 720 pages.
