Saving the world takes a toll on a hero and from the looks of it, Tony Stark is about to get his comeuppance. On Tuesday, Paramount and Marvel Studios officially released the brand new trailer for the highly anticipated "Iron Man 3" and it heavily teases a round of punishment for everyone's favorite Avenger. Based on the comic series "Extremis", the third movie in the "Iron Man" series puts billionaire, playboy, philanthropist Tony Stark up against an international terrorist who calls himself The Mandarin, played by Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley.
The Mandarin is Iron Man's biggest nemesis from the comics and he figures to give Tony his greatest challenge yet. After a disappointing misfire with "Iron Man 2", the ship looks back on track. While the Mandarin poses a pretty serious threat to Tony and his role as a super hero, it looks like he will have plenty of help this time. In addition to his sidekick, James "Rhodey" Rhodes aka War Machine (played by Kansas City native Don Cheadle), Tony will also be utilizing some new tech, including an Iron Legion of drone suits. You can see a bit of the Legion in action as well as what looks like a version of the Hulkbuster armor at the end of the trailer.
At this point, Marvel seems to have it figured out. When the original "Iron Man" hit theatres back in 2008, he was hardly known outside comic book circles, at least not on the scale of Batman, Spider-Man or the X-Men. Thanks to Robert Downey Jr.'s spot on performance as Tony Stark through three movies, including last summers break away smash, "The Avengers", the hero is now a part of a bigger cinematic universe that has comic book fans and movie geeks frothing at the mouth in anticipation.
The film is the first movie in Marvel's Phase Two, which will set up "Marvel's Avengers 2", set for release in May of 2015. Next up after this is "Thor: the Dark World" in November, "Captain America: the Winter Soldier" in April of 2014 and "Guardians of the Galaxy" in August of 2014.
"Iron Man 3" hits theatres on May 3, 2013 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale, Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley. The film is directed by Shane Black, who also co-wrote the script with Drew Pearce.
