According to a Feb. 27 report in “BBC”, a new iPhone app that uses the iPhone's camera to check for 25 different medical conditions is coming to the App Store in March.
How will this app check your health? Through your urine.
If you have diabetes, or know of anyone who does, you know that one way to check the blood sugar level is to dip a dipstick in urine and then match the color of the dipstick to a chart. This is a very old procedure; I remember that my grandmother used to check her blood sugar level this way.
Well, now, Mr. Myshkin Ingawale, a TED (Technology, Education and Design) fellow, has developed an ingenious update to this old method, which will test much more than a blood sugar level. It will also test for proteins, nitrates and 7 other elements and be able to identify health conditions ranging from diabetes and urinary tract infections to cancers and liver problems. It will also be able to track your general health.
All you have to do is to open the app, dip a dipstick (supplied with the app) in your urine, place it on a special mat (also supplied with the app), and then snap a picture of it. The app will then analyze it. The app, 5 dipsticks and the mat will be just $20.
Mobile healthcare is expected to save millions of lives, while reducing costs.
