Rumor has it that the new iPad Mini from Apple is in ridiculously short supply. According to a Nov. 3 Daily Mail report as many as two thirds of those who want a new iPad Mini will not be able to purchase one. This could leave you looking for alternatives to the new tablet, and Amazon hopes that you will chose the Kindle Fire HDX as an alternative.
The iPad Mini with Retina Display is expected to be released sometime near Black Friday 2013. However, there is no firm release date set, and it is possible that fewer than 3 million of the new iPad Mini with Retina Display will be available. If this is the case, you can bet that there will be no sales for this new tablet. WalMart recently shocked the world by offering the new iPad Air at $20 off on the release date. If supply is short for the Mini, then there will not be any sales associated with it.
According to Rhoda Alexander, director of tablet research at IHS.
"The company has good reason to be coy about the exact release date, given that supply of the new mini is going to be ridiculously tight in the fourth quarter. The heart of the problem is supply constraints on the new Retina panel."
This low supply could make for some dissatisfied holiday shoppers if this is on their gift giving list. Of course, Amazon's 7-inch Kindle Fire HDX compares favorably with the new iPad Mini, and the cost is considerably less. If you are willing to wait until March 2014, you should not have a problem getting the new iPad Mini, but do not expect it to be an easy buy for Christmas 2013.
