Nintendo has shared new information on upcoming Wii U exclusive, Hyrule Warriors, which will see release on Sept. 26 for North America. According to a press release issued on Aug. 4, Hyrule Warriors will give players a chance to play as the villains from past The Legend of Zelda entries. Among the newly announced playable characters is Link’s nemesis, Ganondorf, and he is looking quite badass. Furthermore, Nintendo has disclosed additional details on various game modes, DLC, and the types of weapons each playable character will have available.
It may not be Zelda Wii U, but Hyrule Warriors is shaping up to be a unique Zelda spin-off, and it has plenty of charm to appeal to both the Zelda and Dynasty Warriors audience. In Hyrule Warriors’ Adventure Mode, players will complete challenges on the map to unlock a new region and adventure mode mission. Certain characters and weapons can only be unlocked in Adventure Mode. The title will take players to familiar locations, such as Skyloft from The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Lake Hylia from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Twilight Field from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.
Over the course of the game, players can level-up their characters to increase HP or use materials collected from defeated enemies to craft Badges to increase a weapons’ number of attacks, create longer combos or extend Focus Spirit time. Additionally, the title will support co-op play allowing for two-player local co-op – one player on the TV and the other on the Wii U GamePad controller.
The Legend of Zelda fans will appreciate the number of playable characters Hyrule Warriors has to offer. Each character will carry his or her own specialty weapons and have unique skills to complement their individual strengths. Here is a comprehensive breakdown of each playable character and their weapon of choice: Link (Hylian Sword), Princess Zelda (Rapier), Impa (Giant Blade), Midna (Shackle), Sheik (Harp), Agitha (Parasol), Darunia (Hammer), Princess Ruto (Zora Scale), Zant (Scimitar), Fi (Goddess Blade), Ghirahim (Demon Blade) and Lana (Book of Sorcery).
Those who purchase and register Hyrule Warriors within four weeks of launch will receive a set of alternative costumes for Ganondorf as free in-game DLC. Select other characters will also be given downloadable alternative costumes as pre-order bonuses from choice retailers in North America. Nintendo will announce additional details on these add-ons in the near future.
We’ll have hands-on impressions of Hyrule Warriors coming early next week. Stay tuned to hear our thoughts on this distinctive Zelda spin-off.
