A New Hyde Park woman was arrested Wednesday after she allegedly punched a police officer in the face after cops were called to her apartment for a disturbance call, Nassau County police said in a news release.
Hazel Gutierrez-Torres, 21, of 102 Jericho Turnpike, was arraigned Sept. 12 at First District Court in Hempstead after being charged with second-degree assault.
Police were called to her apartment after they received a call of a disturbance between Torres and a 24-year-old man. Inside the apartment, Torres allegedly became “enraged” and struck the officer in the eye, a news release said.
After being hit in the face, the officer became engaged in a struggle with Torres, causing both of them to fall to the floor. The officer sustained a shoulder injury.
The female officer was treated at a local hospital for her injuries and released.
Torres was ordered held on $20,000 bail and is due back in court on Sept. 16.
