New Hope Animal Rescue has holiday season activities scheduled

Local animal rescue group, New Hope Animal Rescue, has a busy schedule this holiday season. Sunday, October 28 at Valley Park in Hurricane this organization is hosting their 16th annual pet halloween costume contest. Registration starts at 1:00pm and the contest starts at 1:30pm. The host this year is Alan Hoover from WMXE 100.9 FM. A photographer will be available throughout event.

Categories will include scariest, funniest, prettiest, and most original. Winners will also be selected for best group costume, pet/owner look alike, and former shelter pet. Trophies are awarded.

Entry fee is $3.00 per category per pet. For questions please call New Hope Animal Rescue at 304-562-0300. This number is the Paws and Shop Thrift Store operated by NHAR.

All proceeds from this event will be used to support spay/neuter, medical assistance programs, and toward NHAR's efforts to build a no-kill shelter serving the Putnam and Kanawha area.

Switching gears to the Christmas season, NHAR will be hosting an Open House at their thrift store on November 8,9, and 10 from 10am to 5pm. The Paws and Shop Thrift Store is located at 2806 Putnam Avenue, Hurricane. Holiday music will be playing to get everyone in the spirit of the season. Refreshments will be served. This is an excellent opportunity to find Christmas decorations at affordable prices.

New Hope Animal Rescue is a non-profit, all volunteer rescue group that helps homeless and underpriviledged animals in Putnam and Kanawha Counties. They care for animals through foster care, rehoming, and emergency medical assisstance programs.
