New Hope Animal Rescue is active in many local efforts to rescue, re-home, spay/neuter, and medically assist animals in Putnam and Kanawha County. Volunteers in this group are dedicated to improving the lives of many unwanted dogs and cats every year. This organization is a non-profit, all volunteer foster/rescue group.

The Paws and Shop thrift store at 2806 Putnam Avenue in Hurricane, WV is one way that this organization raises funds, promotes animal adoption, and educates the public about the importance of spay/neuter. This is a main source of funding for programs that include income-based spay/neuter assistance, emergency medical assistance, and foster/rescue animal maintenance. All items in the shop are donated.

In appreciation of the customers who shop in the store year-round there will be an open house on Saturday July 28, 2012 from 10am to 5pm. refreshments will be served and door prizes will be given away. Door prizes will include NHAR branded merchandise, pet-related items, and gift certificates.

A microchip clinic will be held during this event. A veterinarian will be microchipping pets for $25.00 per pet. This fee includes the cost of the chip, cost of implanting the chip, microchip tag, and registration with 24PetWatch Recovery Service. Microchips are a form of permanent id that can improve the chances of a lost pet being reunited with their family.

Pet photography will also be offered at this event. Summer pet portraits will be done by a professional photographer from 11am to 4pm. Appointments are not required, but are recommended. To schedule a portrait session call 304-562-0300.
