Oscar-winning Hollywood movie producer Barrie Osborne (The Matrix, Lord of the Rings) is poised to spend $150-million to film a biopic of Mohammed.
Says Osborne, "The film will educate people about the true meaning of Islam."
Somehow I doubt that...
Like the previous big budget film about the illiterate slave owner and war lord who founded the Muslim religion, the as-yet-untitled film won't show Mohammed's face.
That earlier film, The Message (1976), went to great lengths to appease suspicious or downright furious Muslims, with no success:
Because excising the Prophet from his own story would be impossible, Akkad was forced to make a film whose protagonist was, in effect, absent. A Muslim himself, Akkad knew what was at stake -- no one had ever successfully attempted a play, much less a film about the Prophet. If he pulled it off, he'd be the cinematic voice of the Muslim world.
If not, they might literally kill him. (...)
Akkad's solution was simple: Shoot around the protagonist .(...)
But the Arab world was already playing telephone with news of Akkad's film, mangling facts with fiction and topping the finished rumor with a dash of cross-cultural bias. The rumor was that a Mohammed movie would be made, starring a big-name American celebrity. And since it involved the Americans, who were sure to add insult to sacrilege, then obviously Charlton Heston was in the title role of the Prophet. The final, distilled word-of-mouth amounted to, "Screw you and your huge religion, America is making a movie starring Moses as Mohammed."
This didn't sit well with the devout. Bomb threats were already being called in, so Akkad hired four Islamic clerics to oversee the production, trying to quash any unfounded rumors. Shooting began in Morocco, with a sprawling replica of ancient Mecca and the requisite cast of thousands. But soon enough, the clerics quit -- though they retained writing credits, a perfect film industry paradox.
Then King Faisal of Saudi Arabia managed to convince Morocco's King Hassan that the false Mecca built for the movie was *too* good and might draw pilgrims away from the real holy city. Akkad was promptly kicked off his own set, and out of Morocco.
But wait, there's more:
on March 9, 1977, a group of black Muslims attacked three buildings in downtown Washington D.C. and took 149 people hostage. They had plenty of demands, but the only coherent one was to prevent the upcoming release of "The Message."
Thirty-nine hours later, the siege was over -- a reporter was dead and dozens of hostages had been stabbed, beaten or shot.
Now THAT would be a good movie. Of course, no one in Hollywood would ever make it.
Anyway: The Message worked around the No Mo stricture by using POV shots. Alas, ever since Halloween (1978) POV shots have come to represent "what the serial killer is looking at" in movie-speak. Not a great subsconscious, er, message you want to convey when your subject is the sacred hero to 1.5 mllion heavily armed and easily angered individuals.
Oh, wait...
"The Message" bombed, and Akkad went on to direct one more flop, "Lion of the Desert," funded in large part by Qaddafi, before making a considerable fortune as the executive producer of all eight...

"Halloween" films.
And then he died -- in a Muslim suicide bombing!
Given how Muslims react to everything from sympathetic movies like The Message to sarcastic cartoons, I hope Barrie Osborne has a good life insurance policy.

-Mohammed marriage to his adapted son's wife zinyarb
-Mohammed murder of the women poet of mecca.Remember she was torn from limb to limb while she was breast-feeding her baby.
-Mohammed slaugher of the Jewish tribe, where men and boys with pubic hair were executed. Women and girls were taken prisoners and distributed amoung mohammed followers
-Mohamed harams or sex slaves, please be accurate with the numbers of the sex slaves
-Slave Trade

=) I love it when people research a religion well enough to have understanding and respect for it. Too bad there are only a few people who have kindness and care for others.
The Muslim way of life is the one I choose to follow and love. Those who speak ill of Aisha or the prophet's traditions simply are among those who do not know what Islam is based on; and it is based on the worship of One God without any partners.
People focus on details and twist them in order to make Islam look bad, but in reality, Islam makes so much overwhelming sense that people are coming towards Islam rapidly.
Instead of twisting truths, why not focus on how Islam elaborates that God is One and has no partner (no mother, no father, no sister, no brother, no son or daughter) that is what Islam is based on, and this is what rests in people's hearts, as indeed this concept is a true one.

Why most do most readers and the author herself speak about the Prophet as if they knew more about him than the Muslims themselves?
Why is the author referring to Muslims as people "who are easily angered" has she ever been to a local Mosque and talked to Muslims? Has she studies what Islam really is?
