In two years Antelope Valley residents will have a state of the art medical center in the heart of Lancaster. Located on 15 acres on the corner of 3rd Street East and Avenue I, the 142,000 square foot facility will incorporate sustainable (green) features that will give the facility Leadership in Energy and Design (LEED) Gold Certification.
“We’ve taken an area that was really a deplorable drug infested area that’s going to be changed so we’re going to have legal drugs to help people and a facility that is going to help mend lives,” said Michael D. Antonovich, Supervisor for the 5th Supervisorial District.
The new facility will replace the aging, fifty-year-old facility located on 60th Street West off of Avenue J. The facility will provide a comprehensive range of outpatient services including primary care, specialty care, urgent care, diagnostic and treatment services as well as outpatient surgery and special procedure. It will also include the Antelope Valley Hope Center HIV/AIDS clinic, the regional Foster Care HUB clinic, the SCAN clinic for children who are suspected victims of child abuse, an oncology clinic, disease management programs for diabetes and asthma and mental health programs.
The facility will take two years to build at a cost of $141.5 million. Gail Farber, Director of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works declared the building will open in July 2014 “on time and on budget.”Over 125,000 patients are expected to be served each year.
Antelope Valley College art students will supply the artwork to decorate the new buildings through a $250,000 art fund.
