New Hawaii Five-0 to retain classic theme song

After an initial preview made fans fear that CBS' reboot of Hawaii Five-0 would contain a similarly rebooted theme tune, the show's producers have decided to go back to the basics.

Composer Brian Tyler recently recorded the new theme for the series, scheduled to debut this fall. And this version sounds very similar to the original. Tyler even managed to use some musicians who'd worked on the original recording back in the 1960s.

The show will undoubtedly be much more CSI than the old show, and star Alex O’Loughlin will never be mistaken for Jack Lord. But it sure will be great to have that classic tune blaring from our speakers once again.

Check out this great report about the marketing plan based on the song: "CBS has big plans to make sure the familiar chords are heard everywhere you go this summer: cell phones, oldies radio stations, college football games — even your mailbox. But while retro TV junkies will be pleased by all this musical nostalgia, can a theme song first recorded long before coveted young viewers were even born convince them to check out CBS’s latest crime procedural?"

What's your experience with this tune? Will hearing those "familiar chords" make you tune in?
